But not everyone bowed. A scattered remnant known as the RIO chose exile over obedience, escaping cataclysmic destruction through forbidden wormholes erased from official history. Branded as traitors and hunted across the galaxy, they carried more than survival. They carried memory, choice, and the last spark of human freedom.

This story began as a vision written in 1999, long before its time—when questions of control and identity were only beginning to surface. Final polish edits were completed in 2022, sharpening that original vision while preserving the heart of the story as it was first imagined.
